Tom Watts founded Watts Capital Partners and leads both its wealth management and investment banking activities. Tom addresses the unique needs of each of our clients by leveraging his background in wealth management, investment research, investment banking, and as a business owner. As portfolio manager, Tom launched the Watts Capital Partners investment program in 2003 and founded the firm officially in 2008. To serve our corporate clients, Tom founded our investment bank affiliate in 2009. Tom leads the firm’s overall activities.
Prior to founding Watts Capital Partners, Tom was a Managing Director in equity research at investment banking firm Cowen and Company. Previously, he was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch, where he was elected repeatedly to the Institutional Investor All Star Team, and was named by the Wall Street Journal on July 25, 2000 as a Home-Run Hitter for his stock picking record. Tom began his Wall Street career in investment banking at Bear Stearns.
Earlier, Tom founded Ascent Communications Advisors, where he focused on project finance, and was a Principal at management consulting at Booz, Allen & Hamilton. Tom began his career with consulting firm McKinsey & Company.
Tom earned his A.B. degree from Stanford University and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designations, as well as Series 3, 7, 24, 63, 65, 79, 86, 87 and 99 securities licenses or waivers.
Tom serves on the board of directors of The Financial Clinic and is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of J Journal: New Writing on Justice. In his spare time, Tom enjoys reading, triathlons, skiing, restoring old houses and playing with his dogs.
